In February 2008, Bob, Chris, and I sailed around Cape Horn – something that Bob had looked forward to for years, having read so many sailing stories about the treacherous conditions going “roun’ the horn”. As you can see from this picture, back on 9 February 2008, it was calmer than a pond! He was so disappointed.

This morning, we rounded the Horn at about 8:30; he would have been much happier with today’s trip as we were rocking and rolling, the sky was iron grey, and the white caps were clearly visible.

For the first time since we departed the movement of the ship did not agree with me today - - the seas were rough, but after taking some seasick pills, I kept a low profile through mid-day…not so many pictures. Here is a video that may give you a bit of an idea of how the sea was moving.

At 2:00, I was significantly well enough to attend a “Fortified Wine Tasting and Lecture”. Fortified wines are wines that have other spirits added to them to stop the fermenting process. Sherries, Madeiras and Ports are the most common. In spite of what I thought, they aren’t necessarily sweet. We learned about the differences and sampled five different wines. It was fun!

Tonight we arrive in Ushuaia, Argentina...most of the guests are leaving there, and we'll get a whole new group in that are coming just for the Antarctic Leg!
